Elizabeth Bloch-Smith is a senior staff member at the Tel Shimron archaeological site outside Haifa. Over a 40+ year career she has conducted archaeological digs in Cyprus, Tunisia, Turkey and, primarily, Israel. Her published work explores the connections between archaeology and Bible, with a special interest in the ancient Israelite religion. She is the author of Judahite Burial Practices and Beliefs about the Dead, and is coauthor of the commentary on Judges I, in the Hermeneia series. She has written numerous scholarly articles on Israelite religion and ethnicity, and on archaeological methods and theory, and she is a co-author on the forthcoming final publication of Tel Dor Area B.
